In order to help you with your first steps at university, we have prepared a guide with the most important information about using the library. We hope you find this guide helpful.

How to register at the Library?
To use the library, you must have a valid account* in the library system. To set one up, you need to complete a registration form in the Integro catalogue. After submitting the registration form, you should visit the library office with your ID document. Then, within two weeks, you must come to the lending library.
To activate your account, bring your ID document and:
- For students and PhD students of UŚ – a valid student card
- For postgraduate students of UŚ – a valid certificate of study
- For employees of the University of Silesia – a valid certificate of employment or an employee ID card
- For retired employees of the University of Silesia – a certificate of retirement
*The account is valid for one year. After that time, it must be renewed.
What are the library opening hours?
During the academic year, the Law Library is open during the following hours:
- Monday: 8 AM – 7 PM
- Tuesday: 8 AM – 7 PM
- Wednesday: 8 AM – 7 PM
- Thursday: 8 AM – 7 PM
- Friday: 8 AM – 7 PM
- Saturday: 8 AM – 4 PM
- Sunday: CLOSED
Any changes to the library’s hours are announced on the website and at the entrance to the library.
Who can borrow books from the library?
The right to borrow books from the Law Library is granted to:
- Students and PhD students of UŚ
- Postgraduate students of UŚ
- Employees of UŚ
- Retired employees of UŚ
Other individuals interested in the library’s collections can use them on-site in the reading room after registering as a GUEST in the library system.
How to borrow a book?
- Log into the Integro catalogue.
- Find a book that interests you.
- Select „Details” and then choose one of two options:
- Request – I’m borrowing (This option is active when the document is available and the reader is eligible to borrow from that particular library.) Proceed to the request cart and confirm your request;
- Book – Confirm (This option is active when the document is unavailable. To manage reservations: ID 12345678 – account – reservations. When the document becomes available, go to the request cart and confirm your request.)
Note the purpose of individual items: Loanable items / Items available on-site only.
How many books can I borrow? And for how long?
Borrowing limits in the Law Library:
- Research and teaching staff of the University of Silesia – 50 volumes for 16 weeks
- Other employees of the University of Silesia – 15 volumes for 8 weeks*
- Students of the University of Silesia – 15 volumes for 8 weeks*
- Postgraduate students of the University of Silesia – 5 volumes for 8 weeks*
*Books of which the library has only one copy are lent for a period of 2 weeks.
Where to return borrowed books?
At the entrance to the Faculty of Law and Administration building, there is a drop box (trezor) available for contact-free book returns 24 hours a day. The drop box is emptied once a day on weekdays in the morning. Books placed after 7 AM will be processed in the system on the next business day.
Can I borrow a book from the Reading Room?
In duly justified cases, books intended for on-site use may be made available for short-term loans (overnight or weekend).
Overnight loan
This service is available after 6 PM on weekdays and after 3 PM on Saturdays. On days when the library’s opening hours are modified (e.g., around holidays, in July, or September), books can be borrowed one hour before closing.
Overnight loans must be returned before 11 AM on the next working day. Failure to meet this deadline will result in a fine of 10 zł per volume for each day held.
Items published before 1950, as well as non-self-published works (e.g., doctoral theses), are not available for overnight loan. Journals cannot be borrowed either.
Weekend loans
Books can be borrowed for the weekend starting on Saturday after 3 PM. Borrowing books on Friday will result in a penalty if not returned by 11 AM on Saturday. The books must be returned by 11 AM on the first working day after the weekend.
How to use journals?
Journals can only be used on-site in the Reading Room. Periodicals are not lent out. All available titles can be found in the Integro catalogue.
How to connect to Wi-Fi?
Students of the University of Silesia can access free wireless internet in university buildings.
To connect to the university’s Wi-Fi, select either the „student-us” or „eduroam” network, and enter the following details:
- SSID: student-us
- Protection: WPA2-Enterprise
- Encryption: AES
- Authentication method: Microsoft (EAP)
- Certificate: AddTrust External CA Root
- Server: radius.us.edu.pl
- Authentication: Secure password (EAP-MSCHAPv2)
Log-in: Your student email address (e.g., )
Password: The same as your student email password
To use the Wi-Fi network, you must have a student email address. If you don’t have one yet, please check the University website for more information.
How to use electronic databases (LEX/Legalis)?
- Select the “e-collections” tab, then “databases by subject area” – Law.
- Choose the database that interests you, then select one of the options:
- Entry to the database – if you are using the university network
- Remote access: HAN UŚ – if you are outside the university network. Log in using your email address/ID number and password assigned to your library account.
- Remote access will not be available if your account is blocked or if the late return fee has not been paid. Once the books are returned or the return deadline extended and the fee paid, your account will be unblocked.
